Ilo

Ilo Schroeder

1875–1947
Border District Commandant

Ilo started his career as a gymnastics teacher, but ended up a Border Commandant at Terijoki in early 1920s. His tasks included arrangement of border control and security surveillance at the border between Finland and Soviet Russia. At the time, the border zone was restless and smuggling flourished.

Ilo had the reputation of a leader who expressed a firm attitude towards Russians and communists and often did not think highly of refugees either.
