Elena Guro
1877–1913
Artist and poet
Elena lived in St. Petersburg, but spent her summers at the Karelian Isthmus, in a dacha (villa) owned by her father. She was a painter and a poet, who was taught by an impressionist from St. Petersburg, among others. Influence of modern art trends prevailing in the beginning of the 20th century can be sensed in her work, but her personal style was affected the most by the nature of the Isthmus, which inspired her greatly. As compared to the St. Petersburg city environment, the summers spent at the Isthmus were like a breath of fresh air for her.
